Dynamic design: how Joseph Joseph’s office is responding to new ways of working

Homeware design firm Joseph Joseph and Modus Workspace have joined forces in a project to revitalise Joseph Joseph’s office space, where achieving aesthetic functionality is the key strategy for the project

The Joseph Joseph workspace was initially designed by Modus Workspace in 2019, but has recently undergone a large scale refurbishment and extension by the same Modus design team and contractor Two, that completed in early 2024. The refurbishment sought to accommodate the evolving requirements of the Joseph Joseph business in prioritising aesthetic functionality and new innovations.

With meticulous attention to space, material, and colour, the project is more than just a revamping of a work environment – it is an example of how to champion creativity and design that resonates with a brand’s dynamic workforce.

Employee experience

Upon entering the reception, visitors are met with an inviting blend of natural wood tones and lush greenery, complemented by the natural light. The overall effect is a warm, inviting ambiance. The central workspace exhibits a commitment to biophilic design, and the open-plan area balances communal collaboration with individual focus. It features chic, ergonomic furnishings that cater to modern workstyles.

The Joseph Joseph meeting rooms are designed to be transparent and open, visible through glass walls branded with bespoke manifestation that showcases the brand’s iconic designs.

A standout feature is the primary tea point, which is defined by a vibrant coral ceiling and serves to promote social interaction within the work setting. Throughout, the space boasts flexibility through modular workstations that can adapt to changing team needs.

A focus on sustainability

The Joseph Joseph workspace uses durable materials and smart reuse of furniture throughout the project, with the design team collaborating with suppliers to upcycle existing furniture in the space. The design and spatial planning of the workspace allows for natural light throughout, greatly reducing the need for artificial lighting and promoting a closer connection with the natural environment.

The updated furnishings accommodate a workplace that prioritises flexibility and functionality. Its proactive approach to adapting the space’s workflow reflects the space’s readiness to adapt to changing office dynamics, whilst simultaneously preserving its cultural identity.
